Keanu Reeves Says He And Winona Ryder Have Been 'Married For 30 Years'

The stars think they're got hitched for real while filming in a movie in 1992

Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder may have spent the last 30 years married, which – in terms of Hollywood marriages – is pretty good going.

Although Reeves is happily coupled up with artist Alexandra Grant, and Ryder has been with partner Scott Mackinlay Hahn since 2011, the stars believe they actually got married while filming Bram Stoker's Dracula back in 1992.

During one scene, Reeves and Ryder's characters get hitched, but the stars have since revealed they used ‘real priests’ during filming – so are now officially, arguably, married in the eyes of God.

During an interview with Esquire last year, Reeves said: "We did a whole take of a marriage ceremony with real priests. Winona says we are. Coppola says we are. So I guess we’re married under the eyes of God."

Meanwhile, Winona had mentioned their nuptials all the way back in 2018.

She told Entertainment Weekly: "We actually got married in Dracula. No, I swear to God I think we're married in real life.

"In that scene, Francis [Ford Coppola, the film's director] used a real Romanian priest. We shot the master and he did the whole thing. So I think we're married."

Ryder has previously spoken about her friendship with Reeves, sharing one particular story that showed what a good egg the actor is.

Speaking to The Sunday Times, Ryder explained that during a scene in Dracula, Coppola had urged Reeves to hurl abuse at her to make her tears seem more realistic.

The scene saw Dracula, played by Gary Oldman, transforming into a pile of rats, while a horrified Mina Harker (Ryder) looked on.

As the scene was being filmed, Coppola stood behind the camera and started to shout abuse at Ryder in an attempt to make her reaction more believable.

"To put it in context, I'm supposed to be crying," Ryder explained to the newspaper.

"Literally, Richard E. Grant, Anthony Hopkins, Keanu... Francis was trying to get all of them to yell things that would make me cry. But Keanu wouldn't, Anthony wouldn't ... It just didn't work. I was, like, really? It kind of did the opposite."

Ryder said in the interview that, despite the incident, she and Coppola are 'good now', adding that the incident really solidified her friendship with Reeves, which is good to know given that they're married in the 'eyes of God'.
