Kim Kardashian Says Women In Business Comments Were Taken Out Of Context

Kim Kardashian has claimed her comments about women in business were taken out of context, after facing a backlash on social media.

The billionaire has undeniably done well for herself (the clue is in the word 'billionaire'), but she was born into a life of wealth and privilege; as such, a lot of people didn't take too kindly to her rather blunt business advice.

Speaking to Variety, the 41-year-old said: "I have the best advice for women in business. Get your f***ing ass up and work. It seems like nobody wants to work these days."

The comments sparked a fierce backlash, with many people pointing out that the reductive advice of a privileged billionaire seemed completely out of touch with the reality for millions of women across the world.

Kardashian has now apologised for the remarks, which she claimed were 'taken out of context'.

Speaking on Good Morning America, she said: "That statement that I said was without questions and conversation around it, and it became a soundbite really with no context.

"In that soundbite, I came off of the notion in the question right before, which was, 'After 20 years of being in the business, you're famous for being famous.'

"And my whole tone and attitude changed with the previous question that went into that question about, 'What advice would you give to women?'"

She went on to explain that what she was trying to say was that 'having a social media presence and having a reality show does not mean overnight success'.

The mum-of-four added that she apologised for any offence caused by her apparently decontextualized quote.

"You have to really work hard to get there even if it might seem like it's easy, and you can build a really successful business off of social media," she said. 

"And you can, if you put in a lot of hard work. And it wasn't a blanket statement towards women or to feel like I don't respect the work or think that they don't work hard. I know that they do.

"That was taken out of context but I'm really sorry if it was received that way.”

Responding to the question of whether she was 'famous for being famous' in the original interview with Variety, Kardashian emphasised the point that she and her family had worked hard to get what they have - regardless of what they were born into.

"Who gives a f**k?" she said, "We focus on the positive. We work our asses off. If that's what you think, then sorry. We just don't have the energy for that.

"We don't have to sing or dance or act; we get to live our lives — and hey, we made it. I don't know what to tell you."
