The Mighty Ducks star Shaun Weiss has presented his incredible transformation as he celebrates two years of sobriety.

Weiss is best known for playing goalie Greg Goldberg in the 1992 family film and its sequels, but in recent years he struggled with addiction and substance abuse of methamphetamine.

In January 2020 he was arrested on charges of residential burglary and being under the influence of a controlled substance, after which he entered a court-ordered drug program.

The actor received a certificate in July 2021 for completing the program, and this week he took to Instagram to announce he was two years sober with two images that show just how far he has come.

One image, presumably taken during the height of his drug use, shows the actor looking gaunt and frail, while a more recent image shows him smiling and looking healthy. Alongside the two photos, Weiss added a phrase which reads: 'A journey of a thousand miles begins with 12 amazing steps.'

The comparison has received thousands of likes from Weiss' followers, with many praising the actor for continuing to overcome his addiction. Commenters described the former child star as an 'inspiration' and a 'survivor', while one person added: 'You've given so many people many great memories through your work. Even though I don't know you personally it makes me so happy to see you doing well!'

In another post marking the occasion, Weiss shared an image of socks that read, 'Sober AF, Two Years.' Alongside the image, he expressed his thanks for the support he has received and added: 'If you or someone you know is in need of treatment – 866.480.2496.'

Drew Gallagher, a friend and advocate of Weiss, told People the actor is doing 'pretty awesome' after attending rehab. He is said to be currently living in a sober house, though has plans to get an apartment 'when his finances get more stable', according to Gallagher.

Weiss is now said to be doing standup comedy in a 'couple' of venues, and Gallagher noted that the loss of his teeth didn't put Weiss off performing, as he said: 'He's been really enjoying that even though he doesn't love being on stage without any upper teeth. He still can't resist.'

He continued: 'We're kind of focusing on just trying to get him back out there acting, he's still as funny as ever. His comedy material is really on point. Shaun's been in the game since he was a kid so he can hop right back on screen no problem.'

As well as having hopes to get back in to acting, Weiss is described as being 'super passionate about helping others', with Gallagher saying that he and Weiss are working on a book explaining their experiences over the last few years.
