Anne Hathaway once revealed her two 'favorite romantic comedy' movies while appearing on American television - and one choice left the audience pretty surprised.
Back in 2017, the Les Misérables star appeared alongside Black Mirror’s Rob Delaney and Armie Hammer on The Late Late Show With James Corden.
In one segment, the Gavin and Stacey star turned to Hathaway and asked her: “What is your favourite romantic comedy?”
After deliberating for a second, the 40-year-old said: “I have two. It’s Notting Hill, yeah it’s a classic.”

The audience cheered for the 1999 movie, which starred Julia Roberts as superstar Anna Scott and Hugh Grant as humble bookshop owner, William Thacker.
And that cheer is deserved as it's a classic for a reason.
However, the Richard Curtis-written rom-com was not the only movie which Hathaway hailed as her favourite.
After listening to a round of applause from the Late Late Show audience, the star continued: “And more recently, Gone Girl.”

However, this time, Hathaway’s comment was met with dead silence before she later said: “Think about it. It’s like a David Fincher rom-com!”
For those unacquainted with the 2014 thriller, it sees Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) becoming the main suspect in his wife Amy’s disappearance (Rosamund Pike).
Not exactly the most typical rom-com plot I've ever heard.
However, Hathaway jokingly argued that it had one element of a romantic comedy.

During her appearance on the talk show, she continued to say that the moment where Amy faints is ‘so rom-com’.
A clip of the actor from the talk show in 2017 has recently resurfaced on X (formerly Twitter) and viewers across social media have been having their say.
“I mean…the main couple DOES end up together in the end,” said one X user.

A second wrote: “People who aren’t familiar with her don’t usually know or pick up that she likes doing those very subtle and dry jokes.
"They always make me laugh (sic) because I tend to be the same way so I get why she does it, personally, it’s funnier to me when the sarcasm flies over someone's head.”
“Anne Hathaway said Gone Girl is one of her favourite romantic comedies and you simply have to agree.” replied a third.
While a Reddit user wrote: “Yeah, Hathaway was being obviously satirical in calling Gone Girl a rom-com.

“However, it could be considered a black comedy (a dark-black comedy), and looking at it through a certain lens. "Hathaway's point might be valid that Gone Girl is a twisted version of a rom-com.
“Having said that, I don't think it takes a genius to know Anne Hathaway was kidding -- at least mostly kidding.”
