Bruce Willis' wife Emma breaks down as she admits she's unsure if he's aware of his dementia

Bruce Willis' wife Emma Heming has given an emotional interview about dementia following the Die Hard actor's diagnosis

Bruce Willis' wife Emma Heming has given an emotional update on her husband's health.

Willis was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) earlier this year, which affects the front and sides of the brain.

His family have been extremely open about his condition - ex wife Demi Moore included - and shared a heartfelt statement at the time of the 68-year-old actor's diagnosis.

"Our family wanted to start by expressing our deepest gratitude for the incredible outpouring of love, support and wonderful stories we have all received since sharing Bruce’s original diagnosis," a joint statement from Heming, Moore and Willis' five children read at the time.

"In the spirit of that, we wanted to give you an update about our beloved husband, father and friend since we now have a deeper understanding of what he is experiencing.

"Since we announced Bruce’s diagnosis of aphasia in spring 2022, Bruce’s condition has progressed and we now have a more specific diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia (known as FTD).

"Unfortunately, challenges with communication are just one symptom of the disease Bruce faces. While this is painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis."

Now Heming, 45, has spoken further on his condition and discussed whether her husband of 14 years knows about his illness or not.

Speaking to Gayle King on NBC'sToday, Heming said: "[It's] hard to know."

Heming, who shares two daughters with Willis, was also asked about how she 'came to terms with the diagnosis'.

"I think it was the blessing and the curse, you know?" she said.

"To finally understand what was happening so that I can be into the acceptance of what is.

"It doesn't make it any less painful, but just being in the acceptance and just being in the know of what is happening to Bruce just makes it a little bit easier."

Heming's feature on television today comes after she recently admitted that she was 'not good' in a candid video shared to Instagram last month.

Speaking from the perspective of a 'care partner', the 45-year-old told her followers: “I know it looks like I’m out living my best life - I have to make a conscious effort every single day to live the best life that I can.

“I do that for myself. I do that for our two children. And Bruce, who would not want me to live any other way. So, I don’t want it to be misconstrued."

The former model reiterated that while it may seem that she’s good, she’s not.

“I’m not good," she said as she continued to open up on the hardships of putting on a brave face for her family.
