If the show Catfish has taught us anything, it's that anyone can lie about their identity and pretty much anyone can fall for it.
Drew Barrymore unfortunately learned this the hard way when she came across a profile on a dating app that allegedly belonged to 'the quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams'.
The 50 First Dates actor recalled the encounter while discussing her experiences with online dating on her Drew Barrymore chat show, where she explained she used the man's career as a way to strike up a conversation.

"Here's a story - ready for this?," Barrymore began as she explained her experience.
"This guy on my dating app said he was the quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams. So, I wrote to him and I was like, ‘Oh my god, I went to the first practice game'.
"'I was so frustrated being a girl from Los Angeles who loves football and we didn't have any teams, and then I moved away to New York and then we got two teams and—it's nice to meet you, my name is Drew'."
Barrymore's openness indicates she really did believe she was talking to a football player, but it wasn't long before the truth came to light.

"He was not the quarterback for the LA Rams," Barrymore said. "He's a musician that thought he was being cute."
Barrymore didn't reveal the identity of the catfishing musician, but it definitely was not Matthew Stafford - the man who actually is the quarterback for the LA Rams.
For reference, Stafford is married to his college sweetheart, Kelly Stafford, with who he shares four children.
So with the quarterback for the LA Rams unavailable, Barrymore asked the audience how she she should 'feel about this'.
The actor made clear she wasn't trying to 'land a football player' after it was suggested she could have become the 'new Taylor Swift', but she was simply 'excited' to talk about how she had been a fan of the Rams from the start.

Things only got worse when the man on the app referred to Barrymore as 'Drewski' - a nickname she did not enjoy.
"I was like 'I hate you. You pithy, deceiving, playful... you've made me feel stupid, I don't know who you are [...] I hate you!'," Barrymore recalled.
So, it's safe to say that wasn't the start of a new romance for Barrymore. Luckily, Catfish host Nev Schulman had her back, as he responded to the clip of Barrymore sharing her experience to say: "I'm ready."
Here's hoping Barrymore will have more luck if she ever returns to the dating app!
