Identity of mysterious green goblin baffling Emmys viewers revealed

The green goblin caused a stir online

While award shows are normally a wonderful opportunity for celebrities to show off their most stunning looks, a green goblin on the red carpet at the Emmys seemed to steal much of the limelight.

Now that the 2024 Emmy Awards are over, there appears to be one major talking point people still can't get over.

I’m not talking about a TV show that should have gone home with an award but didn’t but rather who that green goblin was which viewers spotted prowling around the red carpet.

Now, I'm not being overly critical of one of the stars' appearances but rather highlighting that a person actually came dressed in a bizarre goblin costume, with a green dress, long nose and pointy ears.

The star certainly caused a stir on social media as many questioned what on earth was happening.

“If the Emmys wanted to up the ante on special effects, I'd say mission accomplished; that 'green goblin' cameo sure has everyone talking. It certainly adds a whole new dimension to 'unexpected guest appearances',” one user wrote on X.

“Sorry is anyone gonna talk about the green goblin that was on the red carpet for the Emmy’s,” another added.

After taking the focus away from the rest of the glamorous celebrities, the answer people have been desperate for has finally been revealed.

So, who was behind all that makeup and prosthetics?

The identity of the goblin was in fact RuPaul's Drag Race star Princess Poppy.

Speaking to Entertainment weekly, Poppy explained the reasoning behind the stunt.

"I wanted to do the exact opposite of what is expected of you when you go to an event like this. I wanted to take decorum and turn it on its head,” they said.

Certainly true, I definitely didn’t expect to see a goblin in my lifetime, let alone an awards ceremony.

“Mainly I wanted to be a troll-slash-hag. I wanted to be so shocking that you just have to turn and look at me - in the worst way possible,” they continued.

Fans of the show seemed to get behind the red-carpet choice and praised the star on social media.

“Princess poppy is so unserious for showing up to the Emmy’s as a yassified green goblin,” one user wrote.

“Waking up to green goblin at the emmy’s headlines… princess poppy you will always be famous,” another fan praised.

“Princess poppy dressing up as a green goblin at the emmys is the best thing that happened so far this year,” a third added.
