Harry Potter actor Sir Michael Gambon has died aged 82.
His family have confirmed the sad news in a statement, announcing that he passed away peacefully in hospital.
Given on behalf of his wife, Lady Gambon, and son Fergus Gambon, publicist Clair Dobbs said: “We are devastated to announce the loss of Sir Michael Gambon.

“Beloved husband and father, Michael died peacefully in hospital with his wife Anne and son Fergus at his bedside, following a bout of pneumonia. Michael was 82.

Sir Gambon leaves behind an incredible acting legacy, having been on stage and screen for more than sixty years.
The actor was best known for his roles in Harry Potter as Albus Dumbledore and in the Oscar-winning feature The King's Speech.
Rising through the ranks at the Royal National Theatre, he starred with acting legend Laurence Olivier and quickly became known for his intense performances.

Starring in countless Shakespearean productions, Sir Gambon appeared in Macbeth, Hamlet, and Coriolanus.
Even his first film appearance was in a 1965 adaptation of Othello, but the actor wouldn't just be tied to the stage.
Having capturing the hearts of audiences, the 82-year-old starred in classic films such as Gosford Park, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zizzou and Sleepy Hollow alongside Johnny Depp.
During his incredible career, he would also win two Screen Actors Guild Awards, three Olivier Awards and four BAFTAs.

He also received a knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II in 1999, in recognition of his services to acting.
However, the Irish actor more accolades after becoming a beloved part of the Harry Potter franchise.
In fact, he will be best remembered for his role as Albus Dumbledore, the legendary Hogwarts headmaster and mentor to the boy wizard.
Whilst it's hard to imagine anyone else in the iconic Harry Potter role, Gambon actually took over the role from Richard Harris - who passed away in 2002.

Though he joined the cast later, Sir Gambon made the role his own and starred in the franchise from 2004 to 20011.
Later in his life, the veteran performer would also star in another JK Rowling adaptation: The Casual Vacancy.
Though he continued to work in his old age, he had to withdraw from comedy series Breeders as he began to experience memory issues in 2018.
He leaves behind his wife Lady Anne Gambon and his son, Fergus.
