Michael Douglas, 79, shares 'rough' time kids’ college thought he was a grandfather on parents’ day

Michael Douglas opened up about the awkward incident as well as what it feels like to be an 'empty nester'

Michael Douglas has opened up about an unfortunate incident that happened on parents' day at his kids' college.

Being a celebrity may make some of the day to day parts of life interesting to get through, for example visiting your children's school to get a report from their teacher.

The star of Fatal Attraction opened up about a recent incident while he was visiting his kids' college for parents' day.

But while you might expect certain things like being recognised or other parents wanting an autograph, this was something entirely different.

The 79-year-old actor opened up about an awkward interaction at the parents' day.

Douglas has previously opened up in an interview with The Telegraph about the joy he has found in becoming a parent at a later age in hie life.

In spite of that however, it did lead to an interesting and slightly awkward interaction with a teacher when he came to check on his children's progress at school.

So what happened?

Well, it's because the teacher at the college his children go to didn't even think he was actually their parent.

That's because they mistook him for his children's grandparent instead, in a hilarious but cringe-inducing mixup.

He told the Telegraph that the teacher had said to him: “‘This is not grandfather’s day, this is Parents’ Day,'

“I say, ‘I am a parent.'”

Fortunately he was able to clarify the situation and go on as planned, but admitted: "That was a rough one."

Douglas has previously said how he and his family enjoy travelling together, and that their children are able to do so with them.

He told the Today show: “Catherine and I are blessed with the fact that our kids Dylan and Carys still like to travel with us.

“And so, we just finished five weeks in India at Christmastime. And we’re always planning next year, what our trips will be and where we’ll go.”

In the Telegraph interview, Douglas candidly talked about feeling like an 'empty nester' with his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones.

He said: “Catherine and I have been together, it’ll be 25 years this year.

“So it’s been a good ride and I’ve been very fortunate, happy with the choices that I’ve made and now am kind of really backing off and smelling the roses a little more, traveling more.”

The pair have two children together, 23-year-old so Dylan, and 21-year-old daughter, Carys.
