Katy Perry was dumped by Russell Brand with New Year's Eve text

The pair married in 2010, only for Brand to ask for a divorce in 2011

Warning: This article contains subjects of rape and sexual assault

Russell Brand ended his marriage to Katy Perry with a text on New Year's Eve, the singer once revealed.

Yesterday, it emerged that four different women have made allegations if rape and sexual assault against the comedian and YouTuber following an investigation by The Times, The Sunday Times, and Channel 4's Dispatches.

One of the women was just sixteen years old when Brand allegedly assaulted her.

Brand took to his YouTube channel ahead of the investigation being published to strongly deny all the allegations, calling them a 'co-ordinated attack'.

"Amidst this litany of astonishing, rather baroque attacks are some very serious allegations that I absolutely refute," he said.

The comedian met his first wife Katy Perry at the VMAs in 2010, with the pair marrying the same year. However, the marriage ended up lasting just 14 months.

Perry later claimed that Brand ended the relationship via text, saying that Brand told her that he wanted a divorce just a few moments before she went onstage to perform to a packed venue.

Speaking back in 2013, the singer said: "He’s a very smart man, and I was in love with him when I married him. Let’s just say I haven’t heard from him since he texted me saying he was divorcing me December 31, 2011."

She told the Sunday Times: "I was in bed for about two weeks. I was pretty f**ked, yes. It hurt a lot."

The singer added: "Unfortunately, although I had the outward self-identity, I didn't have the inner kind, I hadn't built that up.

My self-worth was in someone else's hands which is never a good idea, because it can be taken from you at any time. And it was, and it was shattered."

Perry had also told the Los Angeles Times that Brand didn't like her 'being the boss on tour'.

She said: "So that was really hurtful, and it was very controlling, which was upsetting."

The singer, who is now a mom and is married to Orlando Bloom, added: "I felt a lot of responsibility for it ending, but then I found out the real truth, which I can’t necessarily disclose because I keep it locked in my safe for a rainy day.

"I let go and I was like: This isn’t because of me; this is beyond me."

The investigation by The Times, Sunday Times, and Channel 4's Dispatches includes a string of allegations from four different women, as well as testimonies from people who have worked with Brand over the years.

Brand became known for his loquacious and confessional style of comedy which frequently went into explicit sexual detail. Among the allegations in the investigation is that he was able to use this persona as a 'smokescreen' for his alleged behaviour.
