Selena Gomez is deleting her Instagram account after commenting on Israel vs Palestine

She's lost more than 273,000 since making her statement on the bloodshed.

Selena Gomez has announced she is deleting her Instagram account.

She's the most followed woman on the planet on the social media app and boasts a whopping 430 million subscribers.

However, the actor and singer has admitted that she's been overwhelmed by everything going on in the world and she wants to check out.

In a since-deleted Instagram Story, she wrote: "I’m taking a break and deleting my Instagram. I’m done. I do not support any of what’s going on.”

It comes after she divided her followers for speaking out on the Israel vs Palestine conflict.

Thousands of people have been killed following Hamas' terrorist attack and Israel's airstrike campaign on Gaza and Gomez finally issued a statement on the bloodshed earlier this week.

"I've been taking a break from social media because my heart breaks to see all of the horror, hate, violence and terror that's going on in the world," she said.

"People being tortured and killed or any act of hate towards any one group is horrific.

"We need to protect ALL people, especially children and stop the violence for good.

"I'm sorry if my words will never be enough for everyone or a hashtag.

"I just can't stand by innocent people getting hurt. That's what makes me sick. I wish I could change the world. But a post won't. Love, Selena."

She then explained how having a younger sister has helped her empathise with the number of children who have been killed since the conflict started on October 7.

In another Instagram Story, she wrote: "Having a sister everyday has made me tragically sick. I would do anything for children and innocent lives.”

However, the post didn't go down well with many people on social media.

One person said: "I love Selena Gomez but this is the saddest excuse of a Instagram story that I've ever seen."

Another added: "Selena Gomez is literally the 3rd most followed person on Instagram with almost half a BILLION followers. A post WILL make a difference. This is why I’m annoyed when celebs make a “neutral” statement. They do it only because of their reputation. Not because they genuinely care."

She even turned comments off her two most recent Instagram posts and the rest have been flooded with messages from fans begging her to speak out on the atrocities being committed in Gaza.

Considering that Gomez has now deleted the story about getting rid of her account, there are questions about whether she will stay on the app, issue another statement or just stay quiet.

According to Social Blade, the 31-year-old has lost more than 273,000 followers since making her comments.
