Sydney Sweeney addresses Glen Powell affair rumors on SNL

The actor shut down the rumors in the best way possible on Saturday night

Sydney Sweeney has expertly shut down rumors of an affair between she and her Anyone But You co-star Glen Powell, in a hilarious SNL monologue.

The actor, who starred as Bea in the rom-com, found herself at the centre of the salacious rumors after fans repeatedly commented on her off-screen chemistry with Powell, despite having a fiancé of her own.

Gossip of the alleged affair went into overdrive in April 2023, when Powell split with his partner of three years, Gigi Paris, months after wrapping up filming.

But now it seems the 26-year-old has decided it's time to put the rumors to bed in the best way.

While hosting SNL for the first time on Saturday, 2 March, Sweeney opened her monologue with: "The craziest rumor I've seen is that while I was filming Anyone But You, I was having an affair with my co-star Glen Powell," adding, "that's obviously not true."

She continued: "Me and my fiancé produced the movie together and he was there the entire shoot.

"I just want to let everyone know that he's the man of my dreams. And we're still together and stronger than ever.

"He even came here tonight to support me... can we cut to him?"

However, the Euphoria star's sweet statement was quickly broken with fits of laughter from the audience when the camera cut to none other than Glen Powell, who was sitting grinning in the audience.

"That's not my fiancé, he's in my dressing room," she yelled over the laughter.

Sweeney's actual fiancé is, of course, Jonathan Davino, a businessman from Chicago, whom she's been dating since 2018.

But despite being very happily loved up in her private life, the actor did previously confess how she and her co-star had intentionally leaned into the rumors they were dating in a bid to give the fans what they wanted.

"It’s a rom-com. That’s what people want," she told Variety back in August 2023.

"Glen and I don’t really care. We have so much fun together, and we respect each other so much; he’s such a hard worker, and I’m a hard worker. We’re excited for the press tour, and I literally just left ADR with him. We talk all the time like, ‘That’s really funny.'"

Meanwhile, Top Gun star Powell confessed he found it a little more difficult due to the fact he was going through a "very real break-up" during the promotional tour for the film.

"I was with someone that I really loved and cared about and was trying to kind of make sense of a lot of stuff," he said, adding, "it was a lot easier for Sydney to lean into something like that because she's in a very committed and wonderful relationship and she's very happy."
