Fans think Olivia Rodrigo publicly took shots at Taylor Swift with her new song Vampire

The new song has fans speculating on who inspired the biting track

Olivia Rodrigo's new song has fans speculating that she has bad blood with Taylor Swift.

At first glance, Rodrigo's latest song 'Vampire' appears to be written about a former boyfriend.

With lyrics like 'Six months of torture you sold as some forbidden paradise/I loved you truly/You gotta laugh at the stupidity', it reads like a heartbreak anthem.

This had fans pointing to Rodrigo's ex Adam Faze as inspiration.

However, this interpretation was dashed when representatives for the 'Driver's License' singer said: "This song isn't about Adam Faze."

In light of this, there seems to be growing consensus that this song is actually a diss track towards Swift, whom Rodrigo formerly credited as an inspiration.

Fans rushed to Twitter to air their suspicions about a rivalry between the two singers.

One user wrote: "Sorry but no one can convince me that song isn't about Taylor Swift being the bloodsucker/vampire she's singing about but she's masking it by making it seem like it's about a boy."

Another tweeted: "The more I listen to Vampire, the more I'm convinced its about Taylor Swift."

So, what's the deal? Why are Rodrigo and Swift supposedly on bad terms?

The two started off on good terms by all accounts, with Rodrigo declaring herself the 'world's biggest Swiftie' in a radio interview.

Swift has likewise been complimentary, sharing videos of the 20-year-old on her Instagram and praising her talent.

The two even met face-to-face in 2021 when they posed a picture together at the Brit Awards.

So why the supposed feud?

When Rodrigo's album Sour came out, it was very much apparent that Swift had influenced the musical direction of one song '1 Step Forward, 3 Steps Back', as it contained an interpolation of her track 'New Year's Day'.

Explaining how Swift's song influenced her, Rodrigo said: "I came up with the '1 Step Forward' concept and I sort of wrote a verse and a chorus.

"I was in the car on a road trip and when I got home, I decided to sing it over the chords of 'New Year's Day'."

This was approved by Swift and her team, with the singer being credited on the song.

However, weeks after the album's release, fans noticed that Swift had also been credited on Rodrigo's hit single 'Deja Vu'.

This was reportedly due to the interpolation of another of Swift's bops 'Cruel Summer'.

It was later reported that Rodrigo had given up a large sum of money in royalties to Swift and her collaborators, who would now be getting a combined 50 percent share of the track.

Although Rodrigo has not publicly addressed the situation, she did speak of 'mean girls' within the industry in a later interview.

When her interviewer said: "There was a lot of bullying and a lot of jealousy and a lot of people whom I'd adored my whole life being mean girls", Rodrigo replied: "Same!"

And given that the two haven't publicly interacted since, who knows if there's something to this rumoured feud.

UNILAD has reached out to both Swift and Rodrigo's reps for comment.
