Piers Morgan Slammed For Shocking ‘Sexist’ Joke On International Women’s Day

In a move likely to surprise no one, Piers Morgan has once again been facing backlash on Twitter.

Piers Morgan has been blasted online after cracking a 'sexist' joke on International Women's Day.

Yesterday, influencers and celebrities alike flocked to social media to weigh in on International Women's Day. Some used it as an opportunity to lift others up and celebrate womanhood – Victoria Beckham, for example, shared a video to Instagram aimed at 'all young girls and women all over the world' – while others used it as an opportunity to draw attention to worthy causes campaigning for gender quality. Oscar-winning actor Reese Witherspoon wrote, 'Women hold up the world. We are the authors, directors, and creators of our own stories & our collective history. Today we celebrate supporting each other and fighting for change!'

'Momager' Kris Jenner used the day as an opportunity to share her pride over the 'incredible' women in her life, and Queer Eye star Jonathan Van Ness took the time to put the spotlight on their own mother, who 'showed me it’s possible to forge your own path since ‘87'.

Piers Morgan's contribution to International Women's Day was unlikely to please the masses, and in keeping with the narrative we've all heard over and over, people were quick to call out the star after he posted a 'sexist' joke to Twitter.

Playing on the archaic stereotype that women belong in the kitchen, the former Good Morning Britain presenter shared an image with the words 'Is International Women's Day over yet? I'm starving!' along with two laughing face emojis as the caption. Suffice to say, the 'joke' went down like a lead balloon – although I'm not sure he expected any different.

'I kinda like it when someone like Morgan outs themselves as a sexist idiot,' replied one user, while another quipped, 'Didn't know you couldn't afford to order food for yourself (or make some yourself, but then you're a man). There there.'

'Just in case you thought misogyny was getting less frequent here is a high profile public figure choosing #IWD2022 to flex his toxic masculinity,' said a third.

Some did see the funny side though, with one person writing, 'I chuckled 🤭 but then I said to myself this is a little sexist. Nice joke tho.'

This isn't the first time the presenter has used International Women's Day as a platform to air his views, having earlier used the day to take a swipe at his former ITV colleagues, including his ex co-host Susanna Reid – as they posed for a snap ahead of yesterday.

He ranted, 'As we approach #internationalwomensday, great to see ITV’s female talent all dressing up in pink and proudly identifying as women. Of course, had I suggested they do this, the wokies would have branded me a sexist gender-stereotype-promoting transphobic patronising monster…'
