Seth Rogen lashed out at the prospect of Hollywood award shows following the announcement of Oscar nominations earlier this week.
Winners at the 94th Academy Awards are set to be announced on March 27, with films such as Encanto, The Power of the Dog, Don't Look Up and Dune among those that could be walking away as winners.
The Oscars are widely regarded as one of the biggest awards shows out there, and news of the nominees resulted in a wealth of headlines and conversation online, but Rogen questioned the popularity of the event during a recent interview with Paul Rudd.
The pair touched on the Oscars while discussing with Insider their Super Bowl commercial for Lay's crisps, which, despite not being Oscar-nominated, will no doubt be viewed by millions of people across the globe at the event tomorrow, February 13.

Rogen commented, 'I don't get why movie people care so much if other people care what awards we give ourselves. To me, maybe people just don't care.'
To further his point, the Bad Neighbours actor noted that he doesn't care 'who wins the automobile awards', adding, 'No other industry expects everyone to care about what awards they shower upon themselves. Maybe people just don't care. Maybe they did for a while and they stopped caring. And why should they?'
Rogen's comments come following a decline in ratings for the Oscars over the years, prompting the Academy Awards to bring in some changes to the show to make it more appealing to viewers.
Ratings for TV network ABC fell by more than half in 2021 compared with the previous year, and The Guardian reports that a new producer has been drafted in to bring the ceremony back with a bang. The Awards are using what has been described as a 'super-event' loophole to allow even unvaccinated people to attend, meaning guests can come with only proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 24 hours.

The Oscars are also set to have a host this year, though who will fill the role has not yet been announced. The news is reportedly set to come in the next few days, with Spider-Man star Tom Holland thought to be a frontrunner in potential hosts.
When asked who he thought would make a good host, Rogen described the question as a 'tough one' but noted there would likely be 'comedians out there' who would want to take on the challenge.
