Footage filmed in a nightclub shows the moment controversial rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine was punched in the back of the head.
A single track doesn't amount to a long set by any means, and the rapper had nearly made it out of the nightclub with his entourage when all of a sudden a member of the crowd threw a punch in his direction.
See the moment they lashed out below:
Tekashi didn't appear to be engaging with anyone in the footage, so it's unclear exactly what made this particular club-goer decide to strike out. It might be that he simply wasn't a fan of the music - though a punch to the back of the head seems an extreme reaction when a good old-fashioned 'boo' could have done the trick.
The rapper did come under fire for sharing details about Nine Trey Bloods gang members as part of a plea deal after being arrested on racketeering charges in 2018, so the puncher may have been seeking revenge for that, or it could be some other unknown reason that he felt Tekashi deserved to be on the receiving end of his fist.
Whatever the motivation, the punch appeared to cause a scuffle with Tekashi's crew, and TMZ reports the man who threw the punch quickly ran away.
His punch didn't appear to do any serious damage, and Tekashi continued on his way towards the exit before allegedly signing autographs afterward outside the club.
In a statement released after the incident, the rapper told TMZ: "He scuffed my shoulder by my neck. He also connected with the shoulder of my security guard."
The rapper made clear he 'didn't know' the man who had hit him, saying: "There was no prior dispute."
Following his 2018 arrest Tekashi pleaded guilty to racketeering conspiracy and eight other charges, earning him a sentence of 24 months in prison with five years supervised release after his plea deal.
He was let out of prison on 17 April, 2020 and was officially freed from home confinement the following August.
Tekashi's attorney Lance Lazzaro gave a statement to the Post at the time, as per PageSix, saying: "I spoke to him this afternoon and he’s in great spirits, he’s doing great. He’s looking forward to his future.”
A punch in the head might not have been quite what Tekashi was expecting in his future, but at least he walked away unscathed.
