Tom Felton thought Gary Oldman was a cleaner on Harry Potter movies

Right, we're just going to come out and say it, Sirius Black (Gary Oldman) is our favourite Harry Potter character, by a Hogsmeade mile.

Despite only appearing in the franchise from the third film, The Prisoner of Azkaban, Oldman left quite an impression.

So, Felton not recognising him at all might just be the most Malfoy thing he's ever done.

Felton made the reveal in his memoir Beyond The Wand (which, we have to say is an excellent name) that was released earlier this month.

Explaining the awkward moment he mistook his co-star and legendary actor for a cleaner, Felton said: "There were certain actors on the set who you’d never really recognise out of character, even though they were absolute legends. They just looked — and I mean this in the nicest possible way — like slightly scruffy older men."

"I was on set one day when I saw another slightly scruffy older bloke wearing an old pair of jeans and a T-shirt. I’d occasionally seen him around and I thought he was one of the cleaning staff."

And here's the worst bit, noting the very clean floors, Felton complimented the 'cleaner,' who obviously didn't have a Scooby what was going on.

"He turned around to see if I was talking to someone behind him, gave me a slightly odd frown, and said nothing."

"He seemed to be showing family and friends around. Bit weird, for one of the cleaning staff. I had a horrible feeling I might have made a faux pas."

Felton just ignored the whole thing.

Okay, in Felton's defence, there were a lot of people on that set and we imagine that the pressure of learning lines and embodying one of the greatest villains to have graced our screens might have clouded his judgement.

And he felt pretty terrible about the whole thing: "I wanted to apologise — not that he’d really have given a monkey’s — but in the end I took the easier route of totally ignoring my mistake and pretending I’d known who he was all along."

Yep, he just ignored the whole thing, which, let's be honest, we all would've done in that scenario because no one wants to admit they didn't recognise Gary Oldman.

Still, we're not sure we've heard a story that cringe-worthy in a while and we hope Felton doesn't think about it too much.
