Will Smith Shares The Moment He Almost Left Jada Pinkett In Resurfaced Clip

'If you have to talk to me like that, we can't be together.'

Will Smith nearly left Jada Pinkett Smith after she swore at him at a party with their friends.

The couple have been at the forefront of the news cycle in the wake of this year's Oscars, where Will walked onto the stage and slapped Chris Rock after he cracked a 'G.I. Jane 2' joke.

Will also warned the comedian to 'keep [his] wife's name out [his] f***ing mouth' in front of the entire audience, before winning his first-ever Academy Award for King Richard.

In a resurfaced Red Table Talk episode from 2018, Will and Jada discussed their relationship alongside their daughter Willow, and his mother-in-law Adrienne Banfield-Norris.

Will cited one occasion that nearly saw him leave Jada, where she told him to 'shut the f**k up' in front of their guests. He then grabbed a newspaper, hit her on head with it and asked to speak with her in the other room.

He recalled telling her: "Jada, this is the deal: I grew up in a household where I watched my father punch my mother in the face, and I will not create a house, a space, an interaction with a person where there's profanity and violence.

"If you have to talk to me like that, we can't be together. We're not going to use any profanity in our interactions. We're not going to raise our voice. We're not going to be violent. I can't do it."

At that point, she reacted: "Well you're not gonna be hitting me on my f***ing head," after which Will told her to get out.

Jada then asked if he'd really break up with her 'over some words', and Will said: "Yeah, I just did! We're not cursing!"

He added: "It was 20 years before we used profanity in any conversation that we had. We didn't use profanity in any argument, we never raised our voices, we took communication courses, all of that – and never had violence."

Explaining how they managed to never raise their voices, Jada said: "You really have to discipline yourself.

"Because really, you're not communicating when you're talking to each other in anger. What I realised is like you're beating up on someone you say you love."

The incident at the Oscars has seen Smith resign from the Academy, issue a public apology and be banned from the Oscars for 10 years. The actor described his actions as 'unacceptable and inexcusable'.
