Kanye West is being investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department after he allegedly verbally abused and punched a fan.
On Thursday, January 13, outside of the Soho Warehouse in Los Angeles, at around 3am, a fan reportedly went up to the rapper, now known as Ye, to ask him for an autograph.
The fan claimed that Ye responded to their request with violence, and that police had to be called and the incident filed.
It has since been confirmed that the 44-year-old is being investigated, and is a suspect in an alleged battery incident.
A fan claimed that they asked Ye for an autograph while he was sat in his car, shortly after he left the elite members’ club, Fox 11 reports.
They allege that the star verbally abused them before punching them and knocking them to the floor.
The LAPD confirmed to The Independent that Ye is a suspect in an ongoing investigation.
It stated:
A Battery Report was completed with Kanye West as a named suspect.
No arrests have been made and the incident is being investigated by our Newton Division.
The victim of the attack reportedly refused medical treatment after the incident occurred.
Moreover, they are said to have recorded the altercation with Ye on their mobile phone, footage of which was reportedly shown to police who attended the scene.
A video shared by TMZ appears to capture Ye saying, ‘Did y’all say that or not? Did y’all say that or not? Because that’s what happened right f*cking now.’
However, the outlet reported that the footage captured on the individual’s mobile has not yet been released due to forming part of the investigation.
The battery charge is considered a misdemeanour, which means that Ye would likely not have been arrested if found at the scene, even if guilty of the assault.
However, misdemeanour battery carries a maximum jail sentence of six months.
Prior to the alleged battery, Ye was reportedly partying with rumoured new beau actress Julia Fox, alongside boxer Floyd Mayweather and singer Madonna.
Fox and Ye are thought to have begun dating after the rapper split with wife Kim Kardashian.
Despite Ye calling for Kim to come back to him, and admitting to his marital mistakes during a performance, Fox recently blogged about the pair’s second date, which she reflected on as being a ‘Cinderella moment‘.
