Social media users have begun cringing after watching a video showing how braces force teeth into the correct position over time.
If you were lucky or unlucky, depending on how you look at it, to have had to wear braces, you understand how painful they can be.
A video that has been up voted more than 25,000 times on Reddit’s Damnthatsinteresting board on Saturday has left users cringing at some of the necessary procedures to get teeth straight.
The footage shows how a tooth that is out of place in the gums is pulled into place over time.

Viewers are given a side by side of a computer-generated depiction and real-life footage of the tooth being pulled into place.
One of the social media users explained in the comments that they had to have this done to them and said it was painful and took years for the tooth to be correctly pulled in place.
“I had this! It took years to drag my tooth into place. Each month they’d tighten the link and pull my tooth closer to where it was meant to be,” the user said.
“Once it was finally in it spot we realized it was BACKWARDS and took like an additional year to rotate it. The process was excruciating. Literally pulling teeth but slow.”

Another user spoke of their own painful experience with the procedure.
The user said: “It took me almost 4 years - I had a stuck baby tooth pulled, they had to move all the remaining teeth apart to make room, then surgery to get at the impacted tooth and that took a long time to pull out like in the video, then they had to put all the teeth back together.”
Other users simply insisted how painful it looked. One simply commented: “Looks painful asf.”
While another added: "I got a pain on the side of my face just watching it."
One Reddit user even joked: “I've always wondered how this type of corrective action, I guess is the term, was discovered. It's such a long process - how did the first practitioners even figure it out?

While I'm thankful I only needed my own braces for a year, I think I might just go book myself a new checkup appointment after so many dental horror stories. Just in case.
