Boss slammed for demanding his employee jump on a Zoom call while on holiday

The boss had contacted their employee during their scheduled time off and demanded that they join a video call

A boss has been heavily criticised online after demanding that an employee join a work Zoom call, despite being on holiday.

The incident was highlighted by TikToker and businessman Ben Askins, whose social media channel looks at exchanges between employees and unreasonable bosses and managers.

This occasion saw an employee sharing a series of messages between them and their boss while they were taking their annual leave.

Not only that, but the boss themselves had signed off on the leave months in advance, so it's not like they didn't have any prior warning.

The tense exchange saw the manager berating the employee, and demanding they join a Zoom call while on holiday in Spain.

The messages began: "Where are you? Haven't seen you at your desk today? I need to run something by you."

Despite being on holiday, the employee said that they would be fine with hopping on a quick call on the bus if it was 'really urgent'.

But that wasn't enough for the boss, who responded: "Would prefer to do this in person as I need to go through the slides with you. Any chance we can jump on a Zoom call when you get to your hotel?"

But the employee, quite reasonably, clarified that they would not be able to do that due to the 'busy schedule' on their holiday.

The boss said that they 'wish you had told me that you were on annual leave', only for the employee to remind them that they had signed it off two months prior and it was 'in the system'.

But it seemed that having leave approved and putting it into the system was not enough for this manager, who responded: "Lol as if I would remember that. It is poor form for you to not remind me."

Needless to say, people were not impressed with the exchange and took to the comments to share their views.

One wrote: "The manager is openly admitting they don’t do parts of their job. This would go right over his head to his boss or HR."

A second replied: "I’m a manager and genuinely get annoyed when my team members come on Slack during their holidays. You are completely banned from doing anything work."

A third recounted: "I’ve been called 5 times and texted 4 times ON MY DAY OFF today. I have not answered or opened any messages. Just trying to not think about work for 1 day leave me alone."
