TikTokers have been left baffled and horrified after one user revealed she'd purchased the ashes of a complete stranger on Facebook Marketplace.
The online marketplace is famous for having some pretty strange listings on there, but parts of a literal dead body surely have to take the lead as the most bizarre.

Naturally, one particular user was left stunned when they came across the listing and so took to TikTok to share the details, saying the seller was offering '2 oz of ash and bone' in glass vials for $30 plus shipping.
It was this video that caught the attention of TikToker Lauren the Mortician, who created a stitch with the initial video about the listing and begged to be sent the link so she could see it for herself.

Fast forward a couple of weeks, and Lauren made the big reveal: she'd bought some of the ashes.
"Grandma has arrived," she wrote, as she unboxed the package to reveal a box containing a small glass vial full of ashes.
The package came with a brown envelope with 'Lauren' written on the front, presumably containing the 'backstory' that was being offered with the ashes for an additional $5.

When asked by a viewer whether the vial really seemed to contain ashes, Lauren responded: "It’s real. You can see me in real time confirm… bc I see the [bone] fragments."
Lauren seemed over the moon with her purchase as she unboxed the ashes, though not everyone shared in her enthusiasm.
In fact, some people thought the purchase was downright sickening.

"This is so wrong," one person commented, while another added: "Omg why would she do this?"
Lauren's video caused further controversy when it was shared on Reddit, where one person commented: "The glee and excitement she had in the first video when she said she was going to buy them is sickening.
"Like, I get people have morbid curiosity etc, but to be that happy about it is disrespectful. And inappropriate considering her occupation."
Though a lot of people have criticized Lauren's decision, she has also received a lot of more appreciative responses from people desperate to know the 'backstory' accompanying the ashes.

Another couldn't resist joking: "Perfect time for gift giving at xmas for that special someone."
Lauren hasn't yet given in to the numerous requests to share the backstory behind the ashes, but hopefully it's a wholesome story about the person's desire to see the world and meet new people, rather than anything more sinister.
