Woman sold home to live in apartment on luxury cruise ship as it saves her huge amount a year

Mimi Bland is ditching miserable England to live on a cruise ship, and somehow it is cheaper!

You wouldn't necessarily expect selling up your home to go and live in an apartment on a cruise ship would be cheaper - but for one woman, that is exactly the case.

Mimi Bland, 59, is actually one of hundreds of people who has purchased a cabin on MV Narrative, a luxury residential cruise ship.

As you'd expect when the word luxury is involved, the liner is petty expensive to board.

It is unlike any other cruise ship as it will go around the world every three years continuously with stops at ports across the globe - some way to travel, eh.

To fund her new adventure, Mimi has sold her three bedroom home worth $637,000 in the village of Farnham Common in the UK.

It won't be all living the high life on the ship though, as Mimi plans to work as a mindfulness mentor - although that is so much better than the stresses of modern day life in the UK, surely?

"I want to see the world while working and without ever leaving the comfort of my own home and meet lots of other ambitious people who are looking for a new life of excitement and fun," Mimi said.

“I am 60 next year and it is time for a re-set. I love my life helping highly successful executives to de-stress their lives and achieve a better work-life balance.

“But I realised that I needed to do that for myself and embark on an exciting new journey of adventure and discovery." Mimi has also splashed out around $1 million to secure one of the luxury apartments on the MV Narrative, while a further $64,000 will be spent on all her meals on board and access to the facilities.

Despite that, Mimi says she will be $25,000 a year better off on the liner, as the current cost of running her home and luxury lifestyle with car and up to five holidays a year is $89,000 a year.

Mimi has had a bit of a tough time in life, splitting with her husband over 20 years ago and not remarrying since.

The ship is certainly a luxury one.

The last three years have really been a turning point for herself, as she realised radical changes were needed.

She said: “I think we have all gone through a big change in the last three years and we have realised that many of us are lucky enough to be able to work from anywhere in the world.

“In my new life, the crew take care of everything and I get to run my business, see the world and meet other executives who are also looking to have a good time."

For those hoping to take a similar path in life, prices for suits on the liner start from $1 million and rise to up to $8 million for the most luxurious apartments.

MV Narrative is currently under construction in Croatia and will set sail in 2025.
