Unluckily for social media users, many have had a new fear unlocked after a viral video showed what a typical journey crossing the North Sea looks like.
It's easy to exaggerate on social media, but one video that has gone viral on X (formerly known as Twitter) shows a pretty genuine reason to be scared of ocean travel.
The clip has so far been viewed more than 17.5 million times and multiple comments have reflected on the sheer power of waves in the North Sea.

The footage shows just how massive the waves are as a massive cargo ship is seen swaying side to side and up and down. Check it out:
If you have understandably forgotten most of your middle school geography classes, the North Sea is located between Great Britain, Denmark, Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and France.
The video shared on X is a compilation of videos from TikTok user mrvincenzo_, who regularly shares footage while onboard a cargo ship.

As well as views from up on the higher decks of the cargo ship, the X video also shows lower levels, showing how much more terrifying it is when the waves are eye level.

One part of the video even shows a worker running away from the crashing waves as he is working on the bow of the ship.

“It’s no amount of money that you can pay me to experience this,” one X user commented.
“The ocean is the scariest place on earth,” another added.
“This looks so insane that my brain can’t even begin to imagine what it would actually feel like to be there,” commented another user.
“There's no convincing me to get on a ship through these waters,” another user wrote.

Other users joked that they were now more appreciative of the efforts taken to ensure they can get the products we use on a daily basis thanks to cargo ship deliveries.
“Bet one of those containers has a package containing a $7.99 book from Amazon / eBay & someone’s throwing a fit & writing bad reviews because of delayed delivery,” one user joked.
“I wonder how many containers of cheap materials and products are at the bottom to be discovered 100s of years later,” added another.

While I'm sure the workers get paid well for these conditions, I think I'll stick to my nice and cozy office that has no chance of getting capsized or sinking.
