Viewers stunned by chilling optical illusion that 'unveils your biggest fear in life'

It has left social media users scratching their heads

Optical illusions continue to be popular online and one of them has left people questioning everything they know about themselves.

Sure, social media can prove to be toxic at times, but nothing shows just how cool it can be with the number of optical illusions that do the rounds.

One in particular has been circulating on TikTok with a user claiming it ‘unveils your biggest fear in life’. So pretty serious stuff, doesn't it?

Rather than seeing quirky examples of your brain playing tricks on you, you can settle for existential dread instead.

Check it out:

In an optical illusion shared by @psychologylove100, viewers are asked to look at an image and basically decide what it is.

Sounds straight forward, right?

Well, the TikToker - whose credentials for dispensing psychological wisdom are unknown - claims that depending on what you see speaks volumes about what 'affects you the most' in your life.

The voiceover in the video claims: "If you first saw a rodent, then you're most afraid of humiliation and ridicule.

"Pity and mockery are the worst things for you. It often robs you of your confidence and value as a human being.

See a rodent? Then you're terrified of ridicule, apparently.

"You always strive to be independent, and self-reliant. The idea of having to ask someone for help and being dependent on them is extremely difficult for you.

"You're afraid of losing control of your life. You don't want anyone else to have any influence over you.

"You're very committed to your personal development and put a lot of energy into it.

"At work, you're the one who takes responsibility. Just because you don't take it personally doesn't mean you'll do anything. You invest your time, and yourself into making every task a reality."

That's quite a lot to read into the act of seeing a rat.

But that's not it.

What do you see?

The big twist comes as the voiceover says that if you see your face, then your greatest fear in life is 'loneliness'.

It adds: "You need to be surrounded by those you love.

"Without them, you feel the ground crumble beneath your feet. You treat others as a kind of insurance. You usually manage just fine without others, but you need to know that you have someone to rely on when you need them. When you're alone, you're paralysed by fear."

Some were impressed, with one writing: "Wow. This one was actually really accurate for me."

However, not everyone in the comments section agreed this image was the best way of perceiving their darkest inner fears as many simply rubbished the whole thing.

Fair enough.
