People have no idea what terrifying figure captured on security camera is as footage goes viral

The viral video has left people stumped

If you're easily creeped out, then you probably won't want to see this video.

There's a host of folklore across the globe about so-called mythical creatures; whether it's 'flesh runners' in the Appalachian Mountains or to Big Foot living his best life in Colorado, there's dozens of tales.

Another urban legend is the Chupacabra, said to be somewhere in the Americas. The name literally translates to 'goat-sucker' as it's said to live off the blood of livestock, such as goats.

The animals (if you can call them that?) are described to look almost dog-like - and this video may have caught a glimpse of one in Costa Rica.

In the Reddit clip that's doing the rounds on X, an eerie four-legged creature can be seen crawling along as two dogs bark at it.

Had it just had two legs, it could have easily been mistaken for the purple monster named Art from Monsters University.

The social media video has been viewed nearly 11 million times at the time of writing.

In light of being pretty unclear as to what it actually is, people have replied to the clip and shared their theories - and some think it could be something sinister.

Someone wrote: "Hmm, very creepy. Probably a shape-shifter."

The creature has left people baffled.

"My first guess: a troll. My second guess: has to be el chupacabras," penned a second.

"Looks like something that crawled out of hell," a different person said.

But others were less convinced...

"That's the owner of the dog crawling like that," suggested one person, while another added: "That’s a person in a hoodie walking funny on all fours."

Elsewhere, others noted how brave the dogs were for going near the creepy creature.

Sadly, the chances of the figure being Art from Monster's University are incredibly slim.

"Those are some brave dogs, personally I would have ran," an X-user commented.

And I tend to agree.

In my opinion, it looks like something that could have come straight out of Costa Rica's infamous 'Cave of Death'.

The cave is located on the edge of the Poas Volcano and, while you'd think it would be hundreds of feet deep, it's actually only said to be two meters deep.

As to what makes the cave so deadly, it's because of the high levels of carbon dioxide inside.

"At higher concentrations it leads to an increased respiratory rate, tachycardia, cardiac arrhythmias and impaired consciousness. Concentrations >10 percent may cause convulsions, coma and death. Solid carbon dioxide may cause burns following direct contact," National Library of Medicine notes.

The creature in the above video definitely looks like something that could live off carbon dioxide instead of oxygen, if you ask me...
