A man has sparked outrage online after making a post claiming he and his girlfriend 'invented' the idea of 'bottle night' in 2023.
Collin Rutherford took to Twitter with the post which featured him and his partner drinking wine from the bottle.
Well that's innocent enough, but it was the caption which got people riled up, as Collin claimed to have 'invented' the concept of 'bottle night'.

Taking to social media, Collin posted: "Do you know what a "bottle night" is? Probably not, because my gf and I invented it during a 2023 blizzard in Buffalo, NY."
He added: "We live together, but it's easy to miss out on 'quality time'."
But, it turns out, pretty much everyone has done a 'bottle night'.
From what we can understand, 'bottle night' consists of each person getting a bottle of wine, putting away their phones, and sitting together drinking and talking.

So, a Tuesday?
Collin explained it: "We lock our phones away, turn the TV off...
"Each grab a bottle of wine, and talk. That's it, we simply talk and enjoy each other's presence.
"What do you think? Do you have other methods for enjoying quality time with your partner?"

People were quick to point out that claiming to have 'invented' sitting, drinking, and talking is somewhat dubious.
Humans and alcohol go back a long way. The earliest evidence of wine production comes from China, dating to 7,000BCE.
So it's fair to say humans have been drinking and talking together in some form or another for 9,000 years.
I'd say reinventing the wheel, but this is actually older than that.
One person even posted a suggested community note on the card.

It read: "Drinking wine at night with loved ones, was invented by the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on the night before Judas Iscariot turned him into the Romans."
Others took to the comments to question the 'invention'.
One wrote: "Congrats on inventing conversation."
A second posted: "Americans are discovering drinking culture. It’s incredible."

Someone else questioned how it was possible to take a picture if their phones were locked away.
They wrote: "How did you take and post this photo without a phone?"
Another was a bit more blunt, writing: "I invented talking to my girlfriend. We both have to get hammered though or it doesn’t work."
