This man felt so bad about trying to drunkenly break into this girl’s home, he hilariously left her beer and an apology note.
They say criminals always return to the scene of the crime yet this guy, ‘Cliff’ – as he is known – did so only in remorse.
He didn’t come back in person and risk an awkward encounter though – he got a little more creative than that – and decided to leave a note, alongside a rather generous pack of beer.
The hilarious story came about after Caitlynne Hines shared a picture of the beer and note on Facebook and explained how the whole bizarre situation unfolded.
She explained how a heavily intoxicated man tried to get into her flat on May 5th, after insisting it was his friend’s apartment and obviously, it wasn’t…
Unimpressed with having her sleep disturbed by a drunken man – she sent him packing – only for him to return again and this time he came armed and determined to try a more extreme measure to force his entry.
Still adamant Caitlynne’s flat was the abode of his friend, the drunken man tried to pick her lock to gain entrance to her apartment that way.
She told Global news:
We didn’t call the police, but we were prepared to if he came back again.
When Caitlynne opened her front door the next day, to her surprise she discovered a six-pack of apology beer and a note laying in wait for her.
On seeing the beer and note, Caitlynne instantly realised it was ‘apology beer’ and fell about laughing at their night time intruder’s misfortune.
It kind of clicked with me immediately once I recognised the box and I just said ‘Oh my god I think it’s apology beer,’ and we laughed for a good while over the note that was tucked inside.
‘Cliff,’ who signed the mysterious letter had clearly not been having the best of nights, as it seems after his failed attempt to enter the flat for a second time, he rocked up at another girl’s house.
His note reads:
I’m the guy who was relentlessly (and very drunkenly) trying to get into your house last night. It turns out Danderson’s place was upstairs. I hope it doesn’t reflect poorly on him that he has such an asshole friend such as myself. Anyway, I sincerely apologise for waking you up and being so disorderly in the middle of the night. Please accept this 6 pack of average tasting beer as a token of my appreciation.
P.S. I walked like 8 km to some random girls house after all that. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.
That it was Cliff. At least he didn’t manage to fully bust into her home and get himself arrested. That would definitely have required more than ‘average tasting beer’.
Regardless of what happened that night and the pitfalls which Cliff managed to fall into, Caitlynne got apology beer out of it and that should always be encouraged.
