After 42-year-old father-of-two George Joseph McShane allegedly strangled his 30-year-old wife Kristen McShane, he logged onto her Facebook profile to post an update.

He hoped it would keep family and friends from becoming alarmed when the mother-of-two failed to return their calls or text messages, according to an arrest report.

On January 7, George McShane allegedly wrote on his wife’s wall: “I can’t believe I dropped my phone in the toilet. I’m such an idiot. Message me here, til I can get it fixed.”

He told detectives he also sent messages to her family and friends to convince them that she was still alive, according to the report obtained by People.

On Tuesday, three days after the posts, police arrested the father-of-two on charges of domestic battery by strangulation and second-degree murder.

Police responded to an ‘unknown trouble’ call at the couple’s apartment on Tuesday. A relative visited the home and thought Kristen was dead and McShane ‘was going to kill himself.’

When police arrived, McShane was in his car in the garage with the engine running, allegedly attempting to kill himself. Officers removed him from the garage and found Kristen’s body in the bed of the master bedroom, covered with a comforter.

McShane told police they had gotten into an argument on Saturday afternoon.

The police report reads:

During the course of the argument, George stated he lost his temper and jumped on Kristen, using his two hands to choke her until he realized she was dead.

Kristen leaves behind a 6-year-old daughter and a 4-year-old son. A friend said: “We are all worried about who is going to take care of the kids.”

A GoFundMe page has since been created to help raise money for the couple’s youngest child who suffers from cystic fibrosis has raised more than $4,000 of the $5,000 goal in one day.

George McShane is being held in the Orange County Jail without bail, according to a court spokesman.
