Man Held For 47 Days Without Having A Poo Freed As Police Drop Charges

A man has been freed from prison in what’s quite possibly the best stand-off between police and a suspect, ever.

24-year-old Lamarr Chambers, was arrested in Harlow, Essex, in January on suspicion of swallowing a drugs stash.

However, the man refused to go to the toilet while he was in custody, so the police couldn’t determine whether he had indeed committed the crime, according to Mirror Online.

Officers live-tweeted their updates on what they described as ‘poo-watch’, but Chambers’ iron will (and bowel) clearly won, as he was released on Monday by police.

Essex police were advised to release Chambers following ‘medical and legal advice’.

The CPS dropped their charges, including intent to supply a Class A drug, despite applying for custody extensions at seven court hearings, which allowed them to keep Chambers in custody while they waited for him to poo.

According to reports, the longest an inmate has gone without using the toilet is 23 days, so Chambers has broken the British record by some distance.

Police officers believe he concealed drugs before his arrest and so they have been waiting for him to finally go to the bathroom in order to officially charge him.

The force even started a hashtag ‘PooWatch’ to keep the public updated on the situation.

Here’s just a handful of the live-tweets:

January 18: Male is still refusing to pass objects, still doesn’t believe police have this power to hold him until he produces, male has been charged with possession with intent to supply class A drugs x2 and on way to court for a 7 day lay down application..

Chelmsford magistrates court have issued a 190 hour detention warrant for the male to pass the items concealed, if they are not passed during that time we will apply for more time #comeon #delayingtheinevitable…

Jan 20: Still no news, another day passes without any movement…

Jan 25: We now enter day 9 of our detention of the male arrested for possession with intent to supply, @cpsuk representative made a very good point their summary to the magistrates “the one person preventing this from being resulted is the defendant himself” another 8 days authorised

You get the gist. There’s pretty much more of the same until complete radio silence as they probably begin to slowly realise this guy was going to get the better of them.

However, little did they know they were dealing with a criminal mastermind, a true maverick, who would not be bested by the ordinary rules of bodily function.

No, they were dealing with Lamarr Chambers, who walks today, a free man.
