The mother of murdered teenager Kenneka Jenkins is desperately searching for answers after the body of her daughter was discovered by police in mysterious circumstances.

The 19-year-old teenager’s body was found in a walk-inside freezer at the Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare Hotel & Conference Center in Rosemont, Illinois.

Jenkins went missing after she attended a party with friends in a hotel room, her body was found in the freezer a day after she was reported missing.

Her mother, Tereasa Martin, was told by the Chicago Police Department her daughter had let herself into the freezer while inebriated and died inside. However she believes that foul play was at work which led to the death of her daughter.

According to the Chicago Tribune, a spokeswoman for the medical examiner’s office said Jenkin’s death ‘wasn’t immediately clear’ and has remained undetermined, therefore any proof of foul play hasn’t been made clear yet.

Speaking to a host of reporters, including the Tribune outside the hotel, Martin said:

(I’m) horrified. It’s something that no one could ever imagine. It’s unbelievable.

Accounts from Martin and the police say Jenkin’s left her house in the 2100 block of West Warren Boulevard at around 11:30 PM on Friday to go to the party. A spokesperson for the village of Rosemont, Gary Mack, said the last person she spoke to was her sister at 1:30 AM Saturday morning.

Witnesses told police they saw Jenkins at a party on the ninth floor of the hotel. Martin was alerted to her daughter’s absence when she received a call from her friends. They called her after 4:00 AM when they were unable to find her. Her friends had Jenkins’ mobile phone and were waiting in the car the car Martin had lent to her daughter.

Her body was located in an area of hotel where construction was taking place.

According to Martin, she was told the freezer they found her daughter in was turned on and cold but was not being used to store food.

Mack stated:

I just happen to know there’s work being done on some new facilities over there, so there is some construction activity where a new restaurant is being built, and (she was found) in that vicinity.

This is not an area where anyone would typically be who was a guest in the hotel.

Martin was told by Jenkins she ‘going to the show and bowling’ that evening and only learned about the party when her friends called her. They told Martin that they’re daughter was getting ready to leave the party but she had left her keys and phone.

Her friends went to retrieve her stuff and when they returned she was gone.

However Martin has questioned their story as it ‘changed over and over’. She is also holding the Chicago PD to account as she fails to believe her daughter just simply walked into the freezer because she was drunk.

She said:

If they had taken me seriously and checked right away, they could have found my daughter much sooner and she might have been alive.

Kenneka Jenkins’ mysterious death remains unresolved, however Tereasa Martin is determined to get to the bottom of it.
