There’s nothing like a loathsome ex-partner to fuel fitness motivation. Whether it’s right or not, there’s something about wanting to show ’em which makes it easier to go on that cross trainer.
Welsh student Shanai Martin dropped from a size 16 to a size 10 in just nine months following a break-up from her cheating ex-boyfriend, and now says she’s feeling more confident and healthier.
Posting her incredible transformation to Twitter, Shanai wrote:
9 months later and 4 stone down. Big thanks to my cheating ex for providing the motivation for a glo up.
Speaking to UNILAD, 19-year-old Shanai explained her story:
So I was with my boyfriend for three years, I found out he had cheated on me and planned dates with another girl he met in Cardiff, I was heartbroken!
I had a four-week trip to Thailand booked with him a few days later so we still went as friends but after that, I just tried my best to get over it.
I suffer with mental illness after my father’s suicide so it was a big knock on my mental health. I lost my appetite completely but also started doing things like walking to work etc just little things really.
I found myself being way more active and the weight just kind of dropped off, a stress thing I think it must have been?
I believe it’s a healer and I never thought I’d get over him, but I’m with someone 10 times better than him now who treats me a lot better and I’m so much happier in myself!
Despite her ex’s despicable behaviour, she has a very mature and admirable outlook to it, saying she doesn’t have hard feelings towards him because ‘it takes effort to hate someone, and that’s not something I have’.
Shanai’s post on Twitter received over 118k likes and 13k retweets, at the time of writing, with an abundance of support and love from Twitter users.
Shanai has some advice for other girls in her position:
When I was fat I had zero confidence, now it’s still hard to feel confident about myself but I definitely feel a lot better than I did before, and a lot healthier as well.
To any other girl, i would say that at the time, when he breaks your heart it feels like it’s the end of the world, but just keep your head up and remember the pain is temporary, and although it doesn’t feel it, in six months you’ll look back and laugh at how heartbroken you were. Trust me!
Following the response she received, Shanai posted to say:
Love seeing girls uplifting each other it makes my heart so happy spread the love chicas.
Many Twitter users were asking for her ‘secret’ and exercise routine, saying her ex must be ‘weeping’, while reassuring her she was beautiful in the before and after photos.
One Twitter user wrote:
Don’t even think about him. The best revenge is being happy . Well done for all your hard work
Shanai hasn’t heard from her ex-boyfriend since she posted the photos to Twitter, and we’re glad to hear she’s with someone who treats her well.
