People Noticed Something Very Different About Trump’s Vegas Speech

23 ABC News | KERO

Donald Trump has spoken at a press conference following the deadliest mass shooting in modern US history and people have noticed something about his comments.

His speech comes after a man fired an automatic weapon at crowds at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival, from a 32nd floor window of the Mandalay Bay hotel leaving more than 50 people dead and 500 injured.

Trump didn’t pay any mention to the ongoing debate about gun laws in the country, instead thanked the emergency services and called the shooting an ‘act of pure evil’.

Watch his full speech here (he arrives at 10.44):

And it was his earlier comment on Twitter that really got people talking.

He wrote:

My warmest condolences and sympathies to the victims and families of the terrible Las Vegas shooting. God bless you!

Unlike he usually does, Trump didn’t make any comment on the identity of the killer, a local white man in his 60s, who clearly does not fit the president’s vision of a ‘terrorist’.

In other instances, Trump has pushed for the travel ban – a ban on refugees and immigrants from several mostly Muslim countries entering the US. But, no mention of gun laws here.

No mention of the shooting being an act of terror, and he’s usually quick to condemn terrorists, sometimes even before authorities have confirmed that.

People have been posting on social media and comparing his recent comments with the words he tweeted after last year’s shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando which killed 49 people and was linked to terrorism.

Here’s what they found:

In the wake of a shooting in Orlando, the then presidential candidate tweeted:

Appreciate the congrats for being right on radical Islamic terrorism.

Following the attempted bombing of a London tube at Parsons Green last month, Trump tweeted the attacker was a ‘loser terrorist’ – before authorities had even investigated properly.

These are sick and demented people who were in the sights of Scotland Yard. Must be proactive!

However, when a man drove a van into a crowd of Muslim worshippers in Finsbury Park, days after the London Bridge attack, Trump issued no comment.

Police said they’re not treating the today’s shooting as an act of terror, despite the fact the state law defines terrorism as ‘any act that involves the use or attempted use of sabotage, coercion or violence which is intended to cause great bodily harm or death to the general population’.

Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said officers had identified the attacker as Steven Paddock, 64, who is described as a local, lone-wolf-type actor.

Officers who were called to the scene said Paddock, who used a ‘fully-automatic weapon’, is dead and said they did not believe there were any more shooters involved.

Police were searching for Marilou Danley, a companion of the shooter and for two vehicles, a Hyundai Tucson and Chrysler Pacifica, both with Nevada plates.

They have since confirmed they are ‘confident’ a female suspect and vehicles have been located.

It is the deadliest mass shooting in America in modern history, surpassing the Orlando shooting in June last year.
