Steve O’Donnell told UNILAD:
We are safe and well, we were waiting for our transfer coach back to our hotel in Salou, the bus was running late but I assumed that it was due to an accident as we saw multiple police vehicles and ambulances travelling too the left of the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.
All of a sudden we heard lots of screaming coming from the direction the police cars had went my wife and kids immediately bolted to the safety of the hotel who immediately shut their shutters once the people nearby had made it inside, after 10 minutes I managed to sneak out and got on my transfer which was just about to leave.
Just glad that my wife and kids got out safely, hopefully there are not too many casualties.
A person has tweeted they are currently stuck in a restaurant following the incident, adding armed police are ‘everywhere’.
