Avatar: The Way of Water has officially crossed the USD$ 2 billion (AUD $2.8b) mark at the box office.
Just in case you didn’t know, the James Cameron flick was already a colossal success and is currently the sixth-biggest film of all time.
If that wasn't impressive enough, the director is responsible for three of the six highest-grossing films ever to cross the two billy mark.

At the time of writing, the sequel has made $2,023,961,353.
Titanic, which made USD $2.1 billion (AUD $3.1b), is listed as number three, and the original Avatar film, which earned USD $2.9 billion (AUD $4.1b), is the highest-grossing movie of all time.
Earlier this month, Avatar: The Way of Water surpassed Avengers: The Age of Ultron and Frozen 2, and climbed to the number 12 spot after generating more than USD $1.4 billion (AUD $2.03b) at the box office.

In the past few weeks, the film has slowly jumped the ladder, clipping in front of The Lion King, The Avengers, Furious 7 and Top Gun: Maverick.
The movie finally nestled into the top six list after eclipsing Spider-Man: No Way Home's box office total.
Just to put things into perspective - the Spidey film is the MCU’s largest solo superhero film - which earned more than USD $1.9 billion (AUD $2.7b) at the box office.
And it keeps climbing.

But Cameron is just getting started.
The Avatar franchise is now well underway as the third film in the saga has largely been filmed and the fourth has already had some scenes shot.
While speaking with 20 Minutes, the director revealed the third movie would show a much darker side to Pandora.

"In the early films, there are very negative human examples and very positive Na’vi examples," he said.
"In Avatar 3 we will do the opposite. We will also explore new worlds, while continuing the story of the main characters. I can say that the last parts will be the best.
"The others were an introduction, a way to set the table before serving the meal."

Cameron has already spilt the tea.
While the previous films received ‘pages’ of feedback from studio executives, he told Variety that Avatar 4 had none.
He said: “When I turned in the script for 4, the studio executive, the creative executive over the films, wrote me an email that said, ‘Holy f**k.’ And I said, ‘Well, where are the notes?’
"And she said, ‘Those are the notes.’ Because it kind of goes nuts in a good way, right?”
