One lucky fan managed to get a sneak preview of Brendan Fraser's entry into the DC universe, as they revealed footage of the actor filming scenes for the upcoming Batgirl movie.

Fraser is confirmed to be starring as the legendary villain Firefly in the film, which is set to explore the origins of Barbara Gordon - aka Batgirl - (played by Leslie Grace.)

Until now, few details have been revealed about Fraser's character, but with the cast currently shooting in Glasgow, Scotland, some fortunate fans have been able to see the beloved actor in action up close.

One of those who got the inside track was journalist Craig Williams, who visited the open set to watch the filming in action.

In a clip posted by Williams to Twitter, Fraser can be seen in character as Firefly, as he films a scene in which he casually strolls out of a burning building.

Fans looks to see Fraser donning his own superhero costume might be disappointed - in this scene at least, his villain is in street clothes, wearing a dark green jacket and cap as he menacingly walks past the camera and away from the store he's presumably just set alight.

But this first glimpse of the beloved actor in character has nevertheless got fans even more excited to see what he brings to the role.

'I'm so happy I'm gonna cry,' one person replied to the video, with another person commenting 'You know how long I’ve been waiting for Brendan Fraser to be back on the big screen. It’s about time.'

The clip of Fraser in action comes after co-director Adil El Arbi shared a heartwarming clip of the cast and crew celebrating the Doom Patrol star's 53rd birthday on set last month, which happened to coincide with his first day of shooting.

Fraser joined other cast members, including Grace, in the city for shooting, though JK Simmons and Michael Keaton, who are reprising their roles as Commissioner Gordon and Bruce Wayne respectively for the movie, weren't spotted.

It's not the first time Glasgow has doubled as the notorious fictional city, with the upcoming The Batman movie also set to feature scenes shot in the Scottish city.

As Batgirl directors Bilal Fallah and El Arbi declared in a clip posted by Williams, 'Glasgow is Gotham.'

Batgirl is set to be released on HBO Max later this year.
