Chris Rock Stopped LA Cops Who Were Ready To Arrest Will Smith

The comedian was attacked by the Men In Black star during the Oscars ceremony

Chris Rock stopped police who were ready to arrest Will Smith at the Oscars, it has been revealed.

By now you will almost certainly have seen the moment the Men In Black star stormed the stage at the awards ceremony last weekend and assaulted the comedian. But in case you haven't, here you go:

Smith, 53, took exception to a joke Rock made about his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, who has alopecia.

The 57-year-old, who was on stage to present and award, said: "Jada, I love you. G.I. Jane 2, can’t wait to see you."

At first, Smith appeared to laugh it off while his wife rolled her eyes, but he then walked onto the stage and smacked the comedian across the head.

Upon returning to his seat, Smith was heard shouting back at Rock: "Keep my wife’s name out your f***ing mouth."

Following the incident, many were surprised that Smith was not escorted out of the event and arrested.

However, in a preview clip from an upcoming interview with Good Morning America, Oscars producer Will Packer says cops were ready to arrest Smith for battery, but Rock stopped them.

He recalled telling Rock: "'We will go get him, we are prepared to get him right now. You can press charges. We can arrest him'.

"They were laying out the options, and as they were talking, Chris was being very dismissive of those options. He was, like, 'No, I'm fine'. He was, like, 'No, no, no'."

Smith went on to win the Best Actor award for his performance in the Venus and Serena Williams biopic King Richard.

He later apologised for his behaviour, admitting that he was 'out of line' and 'wrong' for what he did.

However, despite reports claiming the contrary, Rock's brother said the pair have not made amends.

Tony Rock, the comic's younger brother, took to Twitter to do a Q&A session on Wednesday, 30 March, when he said he felt 'foul' about the slap and appeared to dismiss the notion it could have been faked, writing 'staged for?' and 'fake for what?' when asked whether the events were genuine.

The actor, who worked with Smith's son Jaden in the comedy series All Of Us, went on to say he did not approve of Smith's apology to his brother.

When asked to confirm whether 'Diddy was lying when he said Chris and Will made up that night and are good now', Tony responded: "Yep."

The Academy also issued an apology to Rock, and confirmed that action was being taken against Smith.

The statement read, per Deadline: "The Board of Governors today initiated disciplinary proceedings against Mr. Smith for violations of the Academy’s Standards of Conduct, including inappropriate physical contact, abusive or threatening behavior, and compromising the integrity of the Academy.

"Mr. Smith’s actions at the 94th Oscars were a deeply shocking, traumatic event to witness in-person and on television. Mr. Rock, we apologize to you for what you experienced on our stage and thank you for your resilience in that moment.

"We also apologize to our nominees, guests and viewers for what transpired during what should have been a celebratory event."
