I genuinely don’t think I am ready for the last ever episode of Game of Thrones.
I am a genuine, unrepentant nerd who has always loved magical narratives, and Game of Thrones has allowed me to unleash my geekiness in trendy bars and at the office.
I’ve become so fond of discussing this epic fantasy realm with friends, or dissecting the finer plot points through my articles. Like countless others, it has become a fun little aspect of my life, and I will miss it.
Who knew that week after week, grown adults would chatter excitedly about dragons and castles? That we would dedicate hours to pondering which Lords and Ladies deserve to sit on a throne made out of swords? Even at its weaker moments, I’ve loved it.
Our watch is almost ended, but what better way to reminisce over this epic story than with the upcoming behind-the-scenes documentary Game of Thrones: The Last Watch?
Made by British filmmaker Jeanie Finlay (Seahorse), this film will document the making of the final ever season of Game of Thrones, giving us an insight into what life was really like on set.
According to Finlay’s website:
Game of Thrones: The Last Watch delves deep into the mud and blood to reveal the tears and triumphs involved in the challenge of bringing the fantasy world of Westeros to life in the very real studios, fields and car-parks of Northern Ireland.
Made with unprecedented access, Game of Thrones: The Last Watch is an up-close and personal portrait from the trenches of production, following the crew and the cast as they contend with extreme weather, punishing deadlines and an ever-excited fandom hungry for spoilers.
Much more than a ‘making of’ documentary, this is a funny, heartbreaking story, told with wit and intimacy, about the bittersweet pleasures of what it means to create a world – and then have to say goodbye to it.
