Hundreds Of Crew Members Stormed Kenobi Set To See Hayden Christensen Play Darth Vader Again

Co-star Ewan McGregor said 'hundreds' of members of the Obi-Wan Kenobi crew turned out to get a first glimpse

Obi-Wan Kenobi star Ewan McGregor has revealed that ‘hundreds’ of crew members turned out to see Hayden Christensen reprise his role of Darth Vader on set.

McGregor is currently starring in the Disney+ series as the titular Jedi Master, having first played him all the way back in 1999, while Christensen has returned as Darth Vader having last appeared in 2005’s Star Wars Episode III – Revenge of the Sith

Fans were delighted to see Christensen don his Darth Vader suit once more, and it seems as though a lot of those fans worked on Obi-Wan Kenobi.

We finally got a glimpse of Darth Vader in episode three.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, McGregor said ‘hundreds of people appeared’ on set to come and get a glimpse of Christensen as Vader.

He said: “I was like, ‘Why are there so many people here today?’

“Hayden walks out in the suit, and I was like, ‘Oh, of course, that’s why everyone is here. Everyone is here to see this moment.’

“I’ve never quite seen a crew react the way they reacted when [Hayden] came on set for the first time as Vader.

“I mean, it was like one of the greatest moments on any film set that I have ever seen.”

Christensen chipped in: “What was cool about working on this was so many of the crew members were, like, proper Star Wars fans.

"That’s sort of the fun of working on a Star Wars project, everybody’s really excited to be there.

“I’m sure when they saw Ewan for the first time, they had the same response. But, yeah, that was a big moment for me.”

Christensen has previously revealed that it felt ‘amazing’ to be wearing the Dah Vader costume after almost two decades.

In an interview with the Radio Times, he said: "Being in the costume again was incredible. It's an amazing, iconic costume, and it imparts a lot of feeling when you put it on.

"For me, it was a very emotional experience and very cathartic, in a lot of ways."

The actor also said there was quite a bit of preparation involved in getting himself Vader ready.

“There was a lot of physical prep, just trying to put on some size so I could fill out the suit a little bit more,” he explained. "So most of my time on this was actually spent in preparation.”
