Some say that ‘life is a movie’, but the phrase takes on an entirely different meaning when it turns out that an actual film made over a decade ago might be reflecting our current state of affairs.
Well, a movie from 2006 has been resurfaced for being labelled an unintentional documentary of life today in 2022. You can see the trailer here:
In recent moments, we’ve witnessed the shortest-serving prime minister leave No. 10 Downing street in the UK, whilst the US has seen the Storming of Congress and the overturning of the constitutional right to an abortion.

And don’t even mention the conspiracy theories relating to the Covid-19 pandemic - I don’t want to hear about them.
So, it’s no surprise that people are comparing an actual fictional movie to real life now when we’re facing absolute carnage, is it?
The film in question is none other than the sci-fi comedy Idiocracy, which, judging by the name alone, is a pretty good depiction of the political climate in today’s world, to be honest.
The film’s synopsis reads: “Joe's life changes when he is chosen to be the guinea pig for a secret hibernation experiment.

“When he wakes up from 500 years of slumber, he realises that he is the smartest man on the planet.”
I mean, we’d all be lying if we said we didn’t feel like we had a higher IQ than most when we’re left sifting through mindless ideologies on the daily.
Because Joe is so darn smart, the President of the United States dubs him Secretary of the Interior in a bid to solve the US' food and crop shortages, flattening economy and waste disposal issues. Sounding familiar?
His advice, of course, remains unheard for most of the film as none of the leaders in power are actually willing to listen or learn from their mistake.
Sounds a lot like the issues we're facing today, huh?

Now, onlookers have flooded the comments section on the YouTube trailer with comparisons about the movie and today’s society, and the reason why is pretty self-explanatory.
One person wrote: “At this point, it's safe to say this is a massively underrated movie. Whether they did it on purpose or not, they depict a reality closer to our present than we could ever imagine back then.”
“The movie that's slowly turning into a documentary,” someone else observed, while another person added: “Most prophetic movie ever.”
“My mum told me about this movie and at first I couldn't believe the level of stupidity she mentioned in this future world,” someone else wrote.

“So I watched the movie and yes I did laugh my a** off but a part of me knew this was indeed the way society was heading.”
