Jim Carrey's 'Best' Movie Is Now On Netflix

That's right, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is on Netflix

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, hailed as one of Jim Carrey's 'best' movies, has just hit Netflix.

Carrey has been in a wide range of movies over the course of his career, with the actor-comedian starring in hits like The Mask and The Truman Show.

But, among those films one continually stands out to critics as his 'best': Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

With an outstanding 92% on Rotten Tomatoes, the 2004 film offers an insightful look into heartache. Written by Charlie Kaufman and directed by Michel Gondry, the film follows Joel (Carrey) who learns that girlfriend Clementine (Kate Winslet) underwent a procedure to remove the memories of their relationship following the pair's painful breakup.

Joel then opts to do the same, and viewers watch as the memories of the women he loved fade away.

The romance flick treads into sci-fi waters and sees a heartfelt performance from Carrey and Winslet. Critics praised the film, including Joe Morgenstern of the Wall Street Journal, who wrote: 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind goes by like a fevered dream of love, but one you remember vividly, with profound pleasure'.

However, others weren't so keen, insinuating it was a little pretentious. For instance, Will Self from the London Evening Standard noted: 'For all its high-falutin' references this is just another rom com with a bit of angst and ontological confusion thrown into the mix'.

Still, after all this time people are excited to see the film now it's hit Netflix, with one Twitter user writing: 'Been wanting to watch this for years. #NowWatching'.

In an interview on the film, Carrey explained what it was like to get the script for the first time, after drafts were circulating Hollywood before the film was made.

'Someone gave me the script and I read it and I thought it was incredible. I couldn't believe that I was being offered it, so I was just very, very happy. It was one of those things', he said.

Carrey went on to say he couldn't believe his luck, having been offered the part of Joel after starring in The Truman Show.

The actor also spoke about his co-star Winslet, who he was thrilled to work with: 'I get excited when the people I work with scare me. She's just scary-talented'.

Carrey and Winslet received acclaim for their performances in the film at the time, including a Best Actress Oscar nomination for Winslet.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is streaming on Netflix now.
