Leonardo DiCaprio Posts Touching Tribute After Death Of ‘Best Acting Mum He Ever Had’
Leonardo DiCaprio has shared a moving tribute to the woman who played his mother in the film What’s Eating Gilbert Grape when he was 19 years old.
Darlene Cates passed away in her sleep over the weekend at the age of 69, and Leo remembered how she was with him at the launch of his acting career, People reports.
Darlene’s most famous role was as Leo’s on-screen mother in the 1993 film where she was housebound:
I’ll always remember you as the best acting mamma I ever had. You triumphed in your role
Her endearing personality and incredible talent will live on in the memories of those who knew her, and those who loved her work. My thoughts and prayers are with her family during this difficult time.
Darlene’s daughter Sheri announced her death in a Facebook post saying ‘we take comfort in knowing that she is no longer in pain and is in the arms of our Heavenly Father’.
Darlene once said that acting as a mother came very easily to her and she didn’t ‘have to delve very deep to find Mom in there.’
