Lion King Monopoly Is Now A Thing You Can Play
While the world eagerly awaits the release of The Lion King live action remake, Simba, Mufasa, Scar, and Nala have also been reincarnated in the form of a Monopoly game for the whole family.
Hasbro has released a new version of the iconic property trading game based on Disney’s The Lion King, and it’s giving us all kinds of feels.
This isn’t the first time the Oscar-winning children’s film has been adapted for Monopoly, but this time it comes with a mini version of Pride Rock, which plays music from the beginning of the movie.
Speaking ahead of its release, senior director of global brand strategy and marketing at Hasbro, Jen Boswinkel, told INSIDER:
We know fans love pop culture integrations with their favorite games and with the 25th anniversary of the original motion picture and the release of the live-action film in July, fans will be clamoring for ways to celebrate the classic movie.
Check out the trailer for the new film below:
The boardgame includes carefully detailed quotes and artwork from the iconic original film throughout the game and its tokens, in a bid to help users relive the iconic moments from the 1994 movie.
Players can buy few landmarks from the Disney animated feature like the aforementioned Pride Rock, as the game focuses more on reliving Simba’s journey to becoming King of the Pride Lands.
Hotels and houses are replaced by beetles and grubs, while the train stations are now a rhino, elephant, antelope and a wildebeest.
Properties on offer include a mixture of moments and locations from the film, including the Elephant Graveyard Simba and Nala sneak inside to concepts like ‘The Circle of Life’ and ‘Remember Who You Are.’
Players can make their way through the game as one of Mufasa, Scar, Simba, or his friends, Nala, Timon, and Pumbaa. The carefully crafted tokens each have their own unique home within the box.
The game, made by Hasbro, hit stores this month and costs £30.73.
Meanwhile, The Lion King is set to be released in UK cinemas on July 19, 2019 and we can’t wait.
