Marvel fans have flooded social media with incredible and heartfelt pictures in tribute to Stan Lee after the legendary writer passed away.

Lee sadly died yesterday (November 12) at the age of 95, at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

Working alongside artists such as Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko, Lee helped to make the Marvel Universe as we know it today after co-creating characters such as Spider-Man, Iron Man, Thor and the Fantastic Four.

Lee continued his involvement in the Marvel stories way past the point of creating characters, and made a habit of appearing in the superhero movies in various cameo roles.

Following the news of his death, many of Lee’s friends and family shared kind words about him.

Speaking to Reuters, Lee’s daughter J.C said:

He felt an obligation to his fans to keep creating. He loved his life and he loved what he did for a living. His family loved him and his fans loved him. He was irreplaceable.

Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige tweeted:

No one has had more of an impact on my career and everything we do at Marvel Studios than Stan Lee. Stan leaves an extraordinary legacy that will outlive us all.

Our thoughts are with his daughter, his family and the millions of fans who have been forever touched by Stan’s genius, charisma and heart.

Lee’s work was loved by millions, and the stories of his superheroes have no doubt changed many lives. According to the Guardian, from the release of Iron Man in 2008 to Ant-Man and the Wasp in 2018, films from the Marvel Universe have made a combined $17.6bn (£13.6bn) at the box office.

Many Marvel fans have made their appreciation for Lee’s creations clear by sharing a range of detailed and emotional pictures depicting Lee’s superheroes.

Joining the wave of people paying their respects to the writer are some of the actors who brought Lee’s characters to life.

Chris Hemsworth, who played Thor in the Marvel Universe, wrote:

RIP my friend. Thank you for the incredible adventures your stories took all of us on. My love and support goes out to all your friends and family.

While Mark Ruffalo, aka The Incredible Hulk, posted:

Sad, sad day. Rest In Power Uncle Stan. You have made the world a better place through the power of modern mythology and your love of this messy business of being human… you let us be extra human… superhuman even.

I am deeply honored to have been a small part in the Stan Lee constellation.

Marvel’s rival publisher DC Comics also tweeted thoughtful words to the legend’s memory, writing:

He changed the way we look at heroes, and modern comics will always bear his indelible mark. His infectious enthusiasm reminded us why we all fell in love with these stories in the first place. Excelsior, Stan.

Stan Lee will live on through the incredible characters he introduced to us in the Marvel Universe.

Rest in peace.
