Film critic called out by fans for refusing to review Madame Web

Madame Web released earlier this week, though one prominent critic has not reviewed it.

A popular film critic has been called out by fans for refusing to review Marvel's latest movie release, Madame Web.

For those not looking for a conventional love story on Valentine's Day, Madame Web was the perfect choice as it released on 14 February.

The new release tells the story of Cassandra Webb, a New York City paramedic who starts to show signs of clairvoyance.

But - in typical Marvel fashion - great power comes with great responsibility as she must protect three woman, played by Euphoria's Sydney Sweeney, Isabella Merced and Celeste O'Connor, from a man who wants them dead.

Of course, the S.J. Clarkson directed project was not as looked forward to compared to other Marvel projects.

But it is still a Marvel film at the end of the day, so that's pretty exciting, right?

Well, not exactly, as Madame Web has reviewed pretty poorly.

The movie sits at a shockingly low 13 percent Rotten Tomatoes score, making it a non-recommendation from the majority of industry critics.

"It collapses so pathetically that studio executives might as well have dialed 911 to rescue it," the Wall Street Journal's Kyle Smith said.

Veteran film critic Chris Stuckmann is one of those you'd expect to review every new film release, as the YouTuber has done so for many years.

However, Stuckmann has refused to review Madame Web - something that has ruffled a few feathers amongst his fans and fellow critics.

When new films release, fans often look to the likes of Stuckmann to get their opinions on whether or not it's worth a watch.

But that's not possible with the YouTuber for Madame Web.

"Since I do try to keep it mostly about film celebration on this channel – Having seen the film, I’m going to tell you this is not a movie review of Madame Web." Stuckmann said in a recent video.

"I’m not about bashing filmmakers or artists. I know how hard it is to make a movie, but I do not know how hard it is to make a movie in the studio system."

He goes on to talk about how writers and directors are supposedly treated within the industry by big studios.

And fans have called out Stuckmann for refusing to review the movie, with one person on X penning: "He’ll go ten miles out of his way NOT to say a movie is bad."

"And acting like everyone making the movie wasn’t a willing participant in making it," a second added.

And fellow reviewer, AngryJoe, wrote under his video that he shouldn't 'feel bad about or straight out REFUSE to criticize something harshly when that piece of media deserves it'.

Not everyone is calling out Stuckman though, with another X user penning: "He's a filmmaker trying not to bash another directors work. You wouldn't understand."

While another said: "He's right tho."

UNILAD has reached out to Stuckmann's representatives for comment.
