Matthew McConaughey revealed as secret agent Elvis in Netflix trailer no one saw coming

We didn't know how desperately needed to see The King as a cartoon spy until right now.

Matthew McConaughey will lend his voice to none other than Elvis Presley in the upcoming adult cartoon Agent Elvis on Netflix.

While we're sort of blindsided by this, we had no idea how desperately we wanted - nay, needed - to see The King as a super spy until right now.

In a new trailer for the upcoming series that dropped Monday (February 6), Netflix unveiled what may be the coolest television project in the history of all time.

Check it out below:

The series is described by Netflix as: "Elvis Presley trades in his jumpsuit for a jet pack when he is covertly inducted into a secret government spy program to battle the dark forces that threaten the country he loves – all while holding down his day job as the King of Rock and Roll."

It looks like the dream pairing if you're both an adrenaline junkie and an Elvis fan, with the trailer hinting at plenty of thrills, spills, and pants with an abundance of flared frills.

We can hardly wait.

The nearly minute-and-a-half clip is jam packed with heart-pumping action, plenty of guns, cool fly kicks, espionage, and explosions, so it looks like we're in for a hell of a ride.

Netflix.

And as for the explosions, obviously Elvis is seen walking away from the fallout without a look back.

After all, as the Lonely Planet the song goes: "Cool guys don't look at explosions."

The new cartoon take on Elvis follows on from the widespread success of Baz Luhrmann's Oscar winning film Elvis, with Austin Butler stepping into the fancy pants and gelled hair of Presley.

And, considering Butler is still struggling to lose his southern twang after living as The King for the past few years, we'll bet he's fuming somewhere over the fact that McConaughey landed this gig.

The show was created by the late crooner's ex-wife Priscilla Presley and singer-songwriter John Eddie.

Mike Arnold will serve as showrunner, head writer and executive producer.

While you might not be familiar with his name, he has a pretty decent list of credits under his belt including penning several episodes of hit cartoon spy series Archer.

Netflix

So all we have to say is 'sploosh' to that, then.

Sony will be taking care of animation.

It'll be their first foray into adult animation, but they did bring us Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse so we're not too concerned.

Considering how breathtaking the animation was on that one, we know we're in safe hands.

Agent Elvis is set to premiere this March on Netflix.
