Netflix Responds To Bombardment Of Hilarious Requests Following After Life Final Season

After Life hit Netflix for its final outing earlier this month, but it seems the series has prompted an unexpected request from viewers.

Ricky Gervais' bittersweet comedy After Life hit Netflix for its final outing earlier this month, but it seems the series has prompted an unexpected request from flurries of viewers.

The heartbreakingly funny hit is one of the most-watched shows in the UK – it's been in the Netflix top 10 since it arrived on the platform on January 14 – with fans seeing Gervais' grieving reporter Tony for the last time in its third stint.

While viewers began making their way through the show with laughter and tears, others began bombarding Netflix with a very specific request.

The popular demand stems from a scene in season three featuring Ken Otley (Colin Hoult), the head of the local amateur dramatics company.

Check it out below:

After being teased for being a so-called 'amateur', Ken claps back, declaring 'Don’t you dare – I’m a professional actor and director, I’ll have you know.'

However, when he's pressed about what he's been in – it's Taxi Driver: The Musical, apparently – he serenades the room with a number from the fictional stage version of the Martin Scorsese classic thriller.

'Are you talking to me? ‘Cause I’m talking to you. I don’t see no one else you could be f*cking talking to', he sings. 'Bang bang – I’m a taxi driver! I drive through the night picking up who I like. Bang bang – I’m a taxi driver! If you’re dealing crack then you’ll get one in the back from me'.

After watching Ken do his thing, viewers began inundating Netflix with requests to commission the musical in real-life. In fact, the streaming giant received that many messages about it, it ended up putting out a plea: 'Please stop asking when Taxi Driver: The Musical is coming to Netflix'.

While Netflix doesn't appear overly enthusiastic about the suggestion, Gervais on the other hand seems to be on board, retweeting the streaming platform's message.

One thing fans won't be getting, however, is a season four. 'I’ve already made my mind up there won’t be a four. And you do put those things out there to make you remember as it’s tempting but… there’s an old saying: to lead the orchestra, you’ve got to turn your back on the audience,’ Gervais earlier told the Mirror.

Nevertheless, it's gone out with a bang. The show's third season has been nothing short of a smash hit with viewers, with Gervais frequently taking to Twitter to thanks fans for their support.

'Woke up to thousands more wonderful tweets about #AfterLife. It really is heartwarming and quite overwhelming. Still number 1 on Netflix too, thanks to you. The viewing figures are going to be through the f*cking roof', he wrote.

After Life season three is streaming on Netflix now
