People are asking how Family Guy never got canceled after clip goes viral

Family Guy viewers are taking to social media to question how the show survived after one particularly controversial episode.

While AI-generated Family Guy was so offensive it was swiftly banned on Twitch, the original animated sitcom by Seth Macfarlane has been running for an impressive 24 years and counting.

However, that's not to say even fans of the show haven't questioned how it's managed to hang on so long when its humor really pushes the boundaries - particularly in one scene which has recently been re-shared and gone viral on social media:

Family Guy - starring Seth Green, Alex Borstein, Mila Kunis and Mike Henry - has been around since 1999 and has continued to use satire to poke fun at American culture as well as cover some pretty big historical events.

While the show has been cancelled a fair few times, it's not actually because of its controversial comedy, but because it ended up pitted against other shows on the channel which brought in greater amounts of viewers.

But if there was a scene which could've led to the demise of the show, then some social media users know exactly which one it could've easily been.

The scene in question shows Chris, Peter, Lois and Megan, alongside Brian the dog taking a visit to see Ground Zero.

In the clip, Peter says: "So, this is where the first guy got AIDS."

For those of you like Peter who don't know, the location is the World Trade Center site, titled 'Ground Zero' after the terrorist attacks of 9/11, which Brian quickly informs Peter.

Peter continues by guessing Saddam Hussain 'did this' before going on to accuse the 'Iraqi Army, some guys from Iraq' and 'that one lady who visited Iraq that one time'.

Brian explains: "No. Peter Iraq had nothing to do with this. It was a bunch of Saudi Arabians, Lebanese and Egyptians financed by a Saudi Arabian guy living in Afghanistan and sheltered by Pakistanis."

If you don't know why that discussion is that controversial then you're as bad as Peter.

And despite being released as part of Season Seven Episode Four back in November 2008 - titled Baby Not on Board - the clip has resurfaced on X - formerly known as Twitter - with people questioning: "How did this show never get cancelled?"

Some people deem the show's humor as having been taken too far in the scene.

An X user said: "Lmao peter said wow ground zero so this is where the first guy got aids, what is wrong with family guy."

However, another has taken it as a valuable politics and history lesson, writing: "You know a lot of people rag on family guy but if i really think about it my entire political ideology can be traced back to the episode where they go to ground zero and brian explains the injustices of the iraq war to peter."
