Friends creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane recall their final conversation with Matthew Perry

The Friends co-creators and executive producers spoke to Perry two weeks before his passing.

Matthew Perry's death has been reflected on by Friends co-creators Marta Kauffman and David Crane.

Perry passed away at his home in Los Angeles on Saturday (28 October).

The 54-year-old's cause of death currently remains unknown, his post-mortem examination inconclusive and having been 'deferred' as a result of the need for further investigation.

Marta Kauffman and David Crane, who co-created and helped executive produce the hit US sitcom Friends - which Perry rose to fame on playing the role of Chandler Bing - have since reflected on their last conversation with the actor before he passed away.

During his life, Perry struggled with addiction to prescription drugs and alcohol, using his own experiences to speak out and help support others going through similar journeys.

In his memoir Friends, Lovers and The Big Terrible Thing, the actor revealed that he was sober and doing well.

A passage reads: "I am me. And that should be enough, it always has been enough. I was the one who didn’t get that. And now I do.

"I’m an actor, I’m a writer. I’m a person. And a good one at that. I want good things for myself, and others, and I can continue to work for these things.

"There is a reason I’m still here. And figuring out why is the task that has been put in front of me. And it will be revealed.

"There is no rush, no desperation. Just the fact that I am here, and I care about people, is the answer. Now when I wake up, I wake up curious, wondering what the world has in store for me, and I for it. And that’s enough to go on."

And Kauffman and Crane have since spoken out about how the actor was when they had a conversation with him weeks before he passed.

Matthew Perry was best known for playing Chandler Bing in Friends.

In an interview with the TODAY's Hoda Kotb, Kauffman reflected on how Perry seemed when she and Crane last spoke to him.

In the clip, she says: "He was great. He was happy and chipper, he didn't seem weighed down by anything.

"He was in a really good place which is why this seems so unfair."

Perry's co-stars have since released a joint statement in the wake of his passing.

It reads: "We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family.

"There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss. In time we will say more, as and when we are able.

"For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world."
