New study finally settles the debate of what is exactly the perfect movie length

The study also looked into the average person's views on subtitles

We all have different preferences when it comes to the movies we like watch.

Whether it be the genre or stars involved, there are a lot of considerations to take into account when sticking a film on.

Another point that can make something a must-watch or a big no-no for many people is the duration.

More and more films tend push over two hours in lengths nowadays, while one of last year's biggest movies, Oppenheimer, was a whopping three hours long.

Netflix even has an entire section dedicated to 'movies over two hours' so surely there's some kind of popularity there?

For me personally, a lengthy film needs to be very special to keep my attention for such a long period of time.

And it appears Americans are officially over marathon movies as well.

A recent poll conducted by Talker Research found that the average person wants to spend less time at the cinema going forward.

2,000 US adults were polled as part of the study and the results have seemingly settled the debate of what the perfect movie length is.

Drum roll please... according to Americans, the perfect movie running-time is 92 minutes.

Perhaps these latest findings will have film directors and producers re-thinking their projects going forward.

Only two percent of those polled thought a movie should be longer than two and a half hours, while 15 percent want to sit through a film that’s two hours or longer.

The average respondent felt they'd watched two movies they thought were too long in the past 60 days.

Meanwhile, 23 percent of those who were quizzed reluctantly sat through three or more movies in the same time period.

Elsewhere in the poll, respondents were asked about how they feel about subtitles.

Interestingly, 15 percent of Americans quizzed said whether to leave the subtitles on or off is a highly debated topic in their household. However, 77 percent said it's not an issue.

A third of respondents revealed they 'never' use subtitles while watching movies at home, as just 16 percent admitted they 'always' do.

Young Americans were found to be huge fans of subtitles, with 30 percent of Gen Z respondents saying they 'always' watch with the feature and 23 percent of Millennials doing the same.

On the other side of the spectrum, just 13 percent of Gen X and 12 percent of Boomers were on the same wave length.

Five movies that are the 'perfect' length

  • Beetlejuice
  • Dodgeball
  • Kung Fu Panda
  • Monsters Inc
  • Toy Story 2
